GT Guest Speaker

On Thursday, January 30, 5th grade Gifted & Talented students welcomed guest speakers from the LCA Environmental Firm. Geologist and Co-Founder of LCA Environmental LCA Environmental Co-Founder and Geologist Y. Lynn Clark along with Engineer Dallas May engaged students in a discussion about soil filtration and the critical role of environmental science in solving real-world challenges.

Students explored the fascinating properties of earth soils by testing how water filters through different soil layers. They then worked in teams to design and pitch their own ground filtration systems, simulating a proposal to a mock congress. Taking on roles such as geologists, chemists, engineers, design planners, and accountants, they gained insight into how professionals collaborate to develop solutions. This hands-on experience deepened their understanding of science while fostering teamwork, critical thinking, and creativity.

Clark left students with a powerful message, “Nothing is as important as knowledge, but knowledge is not free.”

A big thank you to our guest speakers for sharing their expertise, leading an engaging activity, and inspiring our students to value learning.
