After thoughtful consideration and discussion, Melissa ISD has updated its policy regarding parent notes for student absences. Effective immediately, families may now submit up to five (5) parent notes per school year to excuse absences, an increase from the previous limit of three (3) per school year.

In Melissa ISD, we encourage parents to make the best decision for their child when it comes to attendance. This change reflects our commitment to our families while balancing the importance of consistent school attendance.

Although the increase in the number of parent notes allows parents more flexibility, please remember that under Texas law for Compulsory Attendance, a student must be in attendance for at least 90 percent of the days the class is offered. Students who don’t meet this requirement, regardless of the reason for the absence, may not be given credit or a final grade for a class.

Additionally, parents have the option of being notified when their student is absent from class by enrolling in attendance alerts through Home Access Center (HAC). We encourage all parents to sign up by visiting www.melissaisd.org/hac.
