NTCA State Champions

The Melissa High School Winter Guard won the National A Class State Championship at the North Texas Colorguard Association (NTCA) Championships on March 29-30, 2025. Competing with their program, Someday You’ll Understand, the team faced off against 10 other high school Winter Guards in the National A Class.

On March 29, the MHS Winter Guard performed in the preliminary round, securing first place and advancing to the finals. The following day, they delivered another outstanding performance and brought home the NTCA National A Class State Championship title.

The MHS Winter Guard had an incredible season, placing first in nearly all of their competitions and earning prestigious accolades, including WGI Dallas Regional Silver Medalists and WGI Southwest Power Regional Champions. They are currently ranked first in Texas and third in the nation among over 130 recognized programs.

Their success has also been reflected in the leadership of Color Guard Director Clay Singletary, who was a finalist for the NTCA Director of the Year—a well-earned recognition for his dedication and impact on the program.

This week MHS Winter Guard will make history by competing at the Winter Guard International (WGI) World Championships in Dayton, Ohio, from April 3-5, 2025, marking their first-ever appearance on this national stage.

Clay Singletary, Melissa ISD Color Guard Director, expressed his gratitude for the team, "I am so proud of this team and all of their accomplishments. They are the true testament of selflessness, hard work, determination, and love for one another. It has been a true honor to be their director and work with them daily as they continue growing into young adults. They are truly inspiring!”

Melissa ISD Director of Fine Arts, Jerry Whorton, also complimented the team for their accomplishments, “The Melissa Color Guard’s journey to becoming NTCA National A State Champions reflects their relentless pursuit of excellence. Day in and day out, they showed up with grit, heart, and a commitment to turning over every stone in the name of growth. This championship isn’t just a trophy — it’s a celebration of their unshakable bond, their courage to dream big, and the standard they’ve set for all who follow."

Congratulations to the Melissa High School Winter Guard on an incredible season and good luck at the WGI World Championships this week! We can’t wait to see what the future holds for you.
