The Melissa ISD Transportation Department is now hiring Bus Drivers and Bus Monitors for the 2025-2026 school year. Interested in driving a school bus but unsure what that’s like? Come out on April 12, 2025, at Coach Kenny Deel Stadium to apply as well as take a turn behind the wheel of a full-sized Melissa ISD school bus.
The MISD Ride & Drive Event will be held 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the parking lot on the home side of Coach Kenny Deel Stadium. School buses will be available to provide interested applicants with a hands-on driving experience.
MISD transportation officials will be on hand to answer questions, conduct on-site interviews and assist with the application process, and to provide applicants with a chance to drive a bus.
For those hired, the district provides paid training to prepare for the required CDL testing. Drivers can also receive insurance benefits and a 10-month work schedule.
Applicants wanting to try out behind the wheel must be at least 18-years-old and hold a valid driver’s license and social security card. On the day of the event, participants should wear closed-toe shoes, tennis shoes are preferred.

To drive a bus in Texas, you are required to meet the following requirements:
Be at least 18 years old
Have a Class B CDL with passenger (P) and school bus (S) endorsements
Pass an annual physical and mental exam
Complete coursework with an approved FMCSA training provider
Complete the Passenger and Class B entry-level driver training
Pass the Texas DPS School Bus Test
Drivers must obtain a CDL in the applicable class with a passenger endorsement to drive a bus that is designed to transport 16 or more people, or that has a GVWR of 26,001 pounds or more.
