MISD Bond 2025 Image

On February 10, 2025, the Melissa ISD School Board called a bond election for an $875 million bond issue.

The process was similar to the district’s May 2021 bond and was a community effort, with a committee consisting of citizens, local law enforcement, parents, and staff. The committee made an informed decision, utilizing data from demographic studies, enrollment projections, and an analysis of future growth within the county.

Melissa ISD's bond proposal outlines plans to address student growth, facility improvements, and technology updates. It includes funding for new schools, facility renovations, expanded transportation, and land for future campuses. The proposal also allocates funds for classroom technology, network upgrades, and digital security to support the district’s technology infrastructure.

The district's financial advisor has determined that the proposed bond will not result in an increase to the current tax rate. The district plans to maintain the Interest and Sinking (I&S) tax rate at its current level of $0.50 per $100 of property valuation. For homeowners within the district, this means no increase in their annual tax bill. Funding for the bond projects will be supported by increased property valuations and continued growth within the district.

For voters over 65 or disabled who have an approved homestead exemption, your tax rate will not change. Under state law, the dollar amount of school taxes imposed on the residence homestead of a person 65 years of age or older cannot be increased above the amount paid in the first year after the person turned 65 or disabled.
