Melissa Middle School advanced theatre students won first place at the 2023 UIL District 5A Junior High One Act Play contest on Feb. 4 for their show, "Gathering Blue", a play about the search for freedom. This is the fifth consecutive district championship win for the middle school theatre program and the first year competing as a 5A school.
Made up of 25 students, including alternates, the cast and crew of "Gathering Blue" brought home awards for Best Show, Best Tech Crew, All Cast, and All Cast Honorable Mention, and Sophia Johnson and Jax Woods were each named Best Performer.
Later this spring from May 11-13, the Melissa Middle School Main Stage Company will perform their next show, "Oliver Jr." The Melissa Middle School theatre program is under the direction of Louise Hickey.
