Melinda Keen and Dr. Tommy Shiflett

The next principals of Melissa Middle School and the Sixth Grade Center have been endorsed by the Melissa ISD Board of Trustees, as Marcus Eckert and William Daniel prepare to move into the principal roles at Melissa High School and Sumeer Elementary, respectively, beginning with the 2023-2024 school year.

Melinda Keen will serve as the principal of Melissa Middle School, following three years as an assistant principal for the campus and 19 years as a middle school educator. Dr. Tommy Shiflett, also an assistant principal at the middle school and an educator for 24 years, will serve as the principal of the Sixth Grade Center.

Mrs. Keen shared, "It has been a blessing for my family and I to have been a part of Team Melissa for the past three years. I am excited and honored to step into the principal role at Melissa Middle School and build upon the solid foundation laid by Mr. Eckert. I have spent all of my 19 years in education at the middle school level and know how important these years are to our students and their parents. You can see in our classrooms and hallways that our staff has taken the charge to help provide the best education for our Cardinals. I look forward to continuing the partnership with our students, staff, and community in maintaining a culture of excellence here at Melissa Middle School. #LivetheINSPIREDlife"
Dr. Shiflett shared, “I am blessed and honored with the opportunity afforded me within Melissa ISD. This district will challenge you to continue your professional growth while allowing you to comfortably lead with a student-centered focus. During my first year employed in the district, I have felt accepted and welcomed, gaining knowledge that is the Cardinal Way. I am humbled by the trust placed in me by the Melissa ISD Board of Trustees to continue my career here in such an important role. Mr. Daniel has done a phenomenal job leading the Sixth Grade Center and I look forward to continuing to lead in such a positive direction with this incredible group of high-achieving professionals.”

Melissa ISD has begun the hiring process for the two assistant principal positions at Melissa Middle School.
