Will Daniel has been endorsed by the Melissa ISD Board of Trustees to serve as the principal of Sumeer Elementary School, the district’s fourth K-5 elementary campus, expected to open in 2023. An educator for 15 years, Mr. Daniel came to Melissa ISD in 2021 to serve as the assistant principal of Harry McKillop Elementary and was selected to serve this year as the principal of the Sixth Grade Center.
Sumeer Elementary will be located in the developing housing addition south of E. Melissa Rd. across from the Z-Plex.
Mr. Daniel shared, “I am incredibly honored to serve as the first principal of Sumeer Elementary. Melissa, Texas and our schools are truly special and I am blessed to be a part of such a wonderful community. Throughout my 15 years in education across all grade levels, it’s been clear that a child’s elementary experience is the most important and the foundation for all future academic and lifelong success is established in the K-5 years. At Sumeer Elementary, we will surround our students with the best teachers an abundance of academic and emotional support to ensure that their experience is nothing less than outstanding. This is the Cardinal Way!”
Kim Boedeker, Deputy Superintendent at Melissa Schools, added, “From the moment Mr. Daniel joined Team Melissa, he exemplified what it means to be a Cardinal. Through a lens of serving our students, staff, and community, Mr. Daniel's leadership blends who we are and what we believe at Melissa Schools. It will be a great joy to witness him spread his Cardinal wings even more as the principal of Sumeer Elementary.”
In preparation for the 2023-2024 school year, Melissa ISD is working with independent demographer, Davis Demographics, to redraw the district’s attendance boundary lines to include Sumeer Elementary. Hiring will begin in the spring for staffing throughout the district.
