The Melissa Education Foundation (MEF) awarded 133 scholarships to students in the Melissa High School Senior Class of 2022 during a ceremony on Monday, May 9 at the Melissa Arts Center. Individual scholarship awards ranged from $500 to $5,000, and totaled $173,000.
“This is one of my favorite nights of the year,” said George James, MEF board president. “We have the opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments of graduating seniors and give them a gift from the community to help further their education.”
Founded in 2006, MEF raises funds each year for student scholarships and teacher grants. To date, the organization has awarded more than $1 million to Melissa ISD students and teachers.
“The generosity of our community and the value local individuals and organizations place on our kids and education was evident at the MEF scholarship awards night,” said Becki Girouard, MEF executive director. “These values make Melissa a great place to live and raise a family.”
