A huge congratulations to the Melissa High School Winter Guard for being named the WGI Color Guard Scholastic A Silver Medalists at the WGI World Championships! The MHS Winter Guard competed this past weekend in Dayton, OH, debuting their incredible talent on a national stage.
Competing in the Scholastic A class, the team advanced through three rounds of competition. In preliminaries, they took first place out of 12 rounds of teams from across the country. In the semi-final round, they once again earned first place, this time competing against 14 teams. Advancing to the finals, Melissa performed alongside the top 20 Scholastic A guards in the nation, finishing with an impressive score of 95.115, securing the silver medal.
This year’s Scholastic A division featured 136 total teams, making the team’s achievement all the more remarkable.
Clay Singletary, MHS Color Guard Director, shared his heartfelt reflections on the season: “There are no amount of words to express the love I have for this team and program. This group of young adults truly embody selflessness, loyalty, integrity, hard work, determination, and passion for this activity. We have been able to turn dreams into reality. It has been an unforgettable season, and I cannot wait for what is to come for the Melissa Color Guard Program.”
Reflecting on the performance, Melissa ISD Fine Arts Director Jerry Whorton shared, “This show wasn’t just well-performed—it moved people. It was unforgettable to see our students connect with audiences at the national level in such a meaningful way.”
