Melissa Middle School 8th-grade student Vanshika Pathani continues to achieve greatness by earning the title of South Central Winner in the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) American History Essay Contest. She was recognized by Susan Johnston, the Texas State Regent, and Missy Roberts, the Texas State Chair of American History, at the Texas Society DAR State Conference education luncheon for her outstanding achievement.
This year’s contest theme, “Enjoying a New Kind of Tea Party!”, ,” encouraged students to creatively explore historical perspectives. After winning the Texas Society DAR competition, Vanshika’s essay advanced to the South Central Division, where she competed against 6th-8th grade students from Missouri, Kansas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, and Louisiana.
Vanshika was among several Melissa Middle School students who participated, with the competition locally sponsored by the John F. Greer Chapter of the DAR, serving the Melissa, Anna, and Blue Ridge communities. Her journey began at the chapter level, where she secured first place before advancing to state, where she triumphed over nearly 200 essays to win the Texas title. Now, as the South Central Division champion, she continues to make history.
Her next challenge? Competing at the national level against top students from across the country for the DAR American History Essay Contest’s highest honor. The national winner will be announced later this month.
Brandon Dunn, Vanshika’s social studies teacher, shared his excitement for her achievement stating, “Vanshika is one of the hardest working and most detail oriented students that I have ever taught. I am so excited for her to win such an important contest and represent the school in such a positive manner.”
Congratulations to Vanshika on this remarkable achievement! Her dedication, creativity, and commitment to excellence continue to inspire. Best wishes as she represents Melissa Middle School on the national stage—we look forward to seeing what the future holds for this talented student!
