The Melissa High School Color Guard program is experiencing an unforgettable season, setting new standards of excellence and artistry under the direction ofClay Singletary. In just under two years, the team has reached remarkable heights, culminating in a landmark year.
After the 2023-2024 school year, the Melissa Color Guard earned the prestigious 2024 Texas Scholastic A Class State Championship title, closing their Winter Guard season as the top program in the state. As the 2025 season unfolds, the team continues to rise, earning awards and recognition at both state and national levels.
This spring, the Melissa Color Guard will make history by competing for the first time at the Winter Guard International (WGI) World Championships in Dayton, Ohio, on April 3-5, 2025. The team’s qualification is a significant milestone, with their current standing ranked first in the state and third in the nation among over 130 nationally recognized programs.
This season, the team has earned numerous honors, including:
WGI Dallas Regional Silver Medalists
WGI Southwest Power Regional Champions
Top two placements at every contest attended
These accomplishments highlight the dedication, discipline, and artistic excellence of the student performers, instructors, and support staff. The Color Guard program offers more than performance—it fosters leadership, teamwork, perseverance, and creative expression.
“Our Color Guard program provides students with an enriching curriculum that integrates dance, equipment, drama, and performance,” said Mr. Singletary. “It’s a space for self-expression and personal growth, and this year’s success is a true testament to these incredible young people's heart and hard work.”
This weekend, the team will compete at the State Championships. Prelims are scheduled for Saturday, March 29, at 8:52 PM at The Colony High School, with Finals on Sunday, March 30, at Coppell High School.
The show, titled Someday You’ll Understand, invites audiences into the world of artist Vincent van Gogh, exploring themes of isolation, tension, and the universal longing to be seen and accepted. It’s a powerful and moving performance that resonates with both performers and audiences.
As the Color Guard prepares for State and Nationals, they continue to embody the core values of the Melissa Fine Arts Department: creativity and a commitment to excellence. The community is invited to cheer on these talented student performers as they make history for Melissa High School.
