The Melissa Middle School Bands earned top honors at the UIL Region 25 Concert and Sight-Reading Contest, held on March 12-13, 2025, with all four competing ensembles receiving Sweepstakes awards. Melissa was the only school in the contest to have every competing band earn this distinction.
This marks the sixth consecutive year that the Melissa Middle School Band program has achieved Sweepstakes recognition, reflecting the hard work and dedication of its students and the leadership of band directors Sasha Blankenship, Bailey Hicks, Dalia Lee, Marli Dority, and Chris McHenry.
Melissa ISD Director of Fine Arts Jerry Whorton credited the success to the collective efforts of students, directors, administrators, and parents, “The achievements of our middle school bands reflect the dedication and passion of our students and directors, along with the unwavering support of our administrators and parents. Music education continues to be a priority in Melissa Schools, and we are proud to see our young musicians thriving at such a high level.”
The Melissa Middle School Band’s commitment to excellence and tradition remains stronger than ever, and this latest achievement reinforces its place among the best music programs in the region. Great job to these talented musicians and their directors!
