Melissa Middle School Choirs Earn Sweepstakes at UIL Region Contest

The Melissa Middle School Choirs made history at the UIL Region 25 Concert and Sight-Reading Contest, earning Sweepstakes honors in all three competing ensembles for the first time. The Varsity Treble, Bella Voce Treble, and Varsity Tenor-Bass choirs all received the highest possible ratings for their performances.

This achievement reflects the students’ dedication and talent, along with the leadership of the Melissa Middle School Choir Director Marissa Martin. Under her direction, the choirs showcased exceptional vocal tone, sight-reading skills, and musical cohesion.

Martin also expressed her pride in the students' achievements, stating, “I am so incredibly proud of my students and their hard work this year! The MMS Choir program has experienced incredible growth in such a short amount of time, and we are now performing at a level I couldn't have imagined when we started. Their dedication, passion, and teamwork have made all the difference. I can't wait to see what the future holds for Melissa Choir!"

Director of Fine Arts Jerry Whorton also commended the students and directors, stating, “Their success at the Region 25 Concert and Sight-Reading Contest is a true reflection of their relentless pursuit of excellence. The level of artistry and discipline displayed by these young musicians is inspiring.”

Congratulations to the Melissa Middle School Choirs on this historic accomplishment!
