Melissa ISD’s District Gifted & Talented Coordinator, Amanda Daniels, has been named an Innovation Fellow by the Innovation Collaborative, a national coalition that advances STEAM education through research, classroom learning, and professional development. She is one of only 25 educators nationwide selected for this prestigious role.
As an Innovation Fellow, Daniels will help shape national STEAM initiatives by evaluating and developing high-quality lessons to be shared with educators across the country. She is also bringing these opportunities to Melissa ISD, expanding professional development for local teachers and administrators and further integrating research-based STEAM education into the district.
Daniels’ work in Melissa ISD’s STEAM initiatives includes last year’s Mars STEAM project, a six-week program for 4th and 5th grade Gifted & Talented (GT) students. The program, led by Lucinda Presley, a renowned educator through the Institute where Creativity Empowers Education Success (ICEE) Foundation, challenged students to design a device to filter water on Mars, incorporating creativity and critical thinking into problem-solving.
In speaking about her role in these projects, Daniels said, “I advocate for meaningful enrichment opportunities for our district that not only foster a culture of growth and creativity but also enhance education and unlock the potential for all learners.”
With over 20 years of experience in education and a master’s degree in Early Childhood Development, Daniels continues to drive innovation in Melissa ISD. Her leadership ensures that both students and educators have access to transformative learning experiences that make STEAM education engaging and impactful.
Executive Director of Campus Services, Walter Perez, expressed his appreciation toward Daniels stating, “Amanda’s dedication to STEAM education is truly inspiring. Her work not only elevates learning opportunities for students but also empowers our educators with innovative teaching strategies. We are excited to see the lasting impact of her leadership in Melissa ISD and beyond."
Melissa ISD is proud to celebrate Amanda Daniels and the ongoing contributions of Lucinda Presley, the ICEE Success Foundation, and the Innovation Collaborative in shaping the future of STEAM education.
Congratulations to Amanda Daniels on this well-deserved recognition!
