DAR Essay Contest State Winner

Melissa Middle School 8th-grade student Vanshika Pathani has achieved an incredible honor as the state winner of the Texas Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) American History Essay Award!

This year’s essay contest topic was “Enjoying a New Kind of Tea Party!” Vanshika joined several Melissa Middle School students from 6th-8th grades in submitting essays for the competition. Sponsored locally by the John F. Greer Chapter of the DAR, which serves the Melissa, Anna, and Blue Ridge communities, the contest began at the chapter level, where Vanshika’s essay earned first place. Her winning entry then advanced to the Texas Society DAR level, competing against nearly 200 essays statewide, ultimately earning the top honor.

As the state winner, Vanshika and her family will attend the Texas Society DAR State Conference in Houston this March, where she will be celebrated during the education luncheon. At the event, Vanshika will read her award-winning essay to attendees.

This essay contest provides students with the opportunity to delve into historical topics and develop their writing skills. Participants explore themes connected to American history, with essays judged on creativity, historical accuracy, and presentation. Vanshika’s achievement highlights her talent and dedication to academic excellence, earning her well-deserved recognition at the state level.

Congratulations again to Vanshika for this remarkable achievement! We are proud of her hard work, creativity, and commitment to excellence. Best wishes as she continues to represent Melissa Middle School at the Texas Society DAR State Conference in March!
