Three Melissa High School students participated in the UIL District Swim Meet, representing Melissa ISD on Jan. 26 at the Prosper Natatorium. All three Cardinals advanced to the regional meet: freshman Everett Bell, sophomore Maxim Smirnov, and junior Abiel Torres.
Competing across a variety of events, Bell excelled in the Boys 50 Yard Freestyle, securing first place with a time of 23.50 and contributing 9 points to the team. In the same event, Smirnov and Torres claimed the 4th and 5th spots, collectively adding another 9 points to the team's total.
Torres competed in the Boys 100 Yard Butterfly, securing 2nd place and earning 7 points. Bell took on the Boys 100 Yard Freestyle, placing 2nd and contributing 7 points. In the Boys 100 Yard Breaststroke, Smirnov claimed 2nd place, adding another 7 points to the team's total.
The MHS Cardinals concluded the competition in 4th place in the bracket with a total of 39 points, earning them a spot in the UIL Regionals Swim Meet on Feb. 9-10, 2024, at New Caney ISD. Best of luck to our outstanding Cardinal swimmers!
