Melissa High School senior, Angelo Ferrari, competed in the Walsh Jesuit Ironman Dec. 8-9 in Cuyahoga Fall, Ohio. The Walsh Jesuit Ironman Tournament is one of the most prestigious and competitive high school wrestling tournaments in the country. The brackets at this tournament are filled with competitors who represent high schools who have a rich wrestling tradition. Ferrari competed in one of the most elite brackets ever assembled at an in-season tournament, consisting of the top five high school wrestlers in the country at the 165 pound weight class.
On his journey to the championship, Ferrari, a University of Iowa commit and the top overall prospect in the United States for the class of 2024, faced-off against two world champions from the USA Wrestling Team, winning both matches. In the championship match, Ferrari battled Joe Sealey of Wyoming Seminary and taking the victory in the last 30 seconds of the final period. Ferrari’s win made him a three-time Ironman Champion and earned him the tournament’s Bill Barger Outstanding Wrestler award.
The Melissa High School Wrestling team will travel to Coppell High School this Friday, Dec. 15 where they will face Frisco Liberty, Putnam City, OK, and Seneca, MO.
