Parents and guardians of students enrolled in the Melissa ISD Emergent Bilingual program recently participated in a Newcomer Community Tour on Nov. 8, organized by Melissa ISD Community Liaison, Edith Maciel, and her staff. The primary objective of the tour was to offer essential information and resources to new residents during their transition to the City of Melissa and the school district.
Participants were treated to a personalized tour, which included a visit to all Melissa ISD campuses, as well as key community locations such as the Post Office, Library, and City Hall. At City Hall, they had the opportunity to meet with Mayor Jay Northcut and Police Chief Erik Stokes, fostering a direct connection with community leaders. The event concluded with a one-of-a-kind experience, featuring lunch and an opportunity to tour Coach Kenny Deel Stadium.
The positive reception to the initiative has encouraged the staff to plan another tour for the upcoming spring.
