Melissa High School student-athletes and the MHS Athletic Training Program students are being honored by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football and Children’s Health Andrew Institute (CHAI). These organizations partnered to award $250 scholarships to seniors Brooklyn Fugett and Romeo Garcia in recognition of their achievements after returning from injuries. These two Cardinals received this award during a surprise celebration at the MHS Pep Rally on November 2, 2023.
Brooklyn Fugett, a senior at Melissa High School who plays both volleyball and soccer, received this scholarship after returning from a significant concussion during the soccer season last year. Since then, Fugett has been patient through her recovery process.
Romeo Garcia, a senior at Melissa High School who is an outside linebacker for the football team, had a major surgery last year. Garcia is receiving this scholarship because of his diligence during his recovery process and because he has made a strong comeback.
Along with these two students, CHAI also recognized the Melissa High School Student Training Program as they have been selected as a finalist for the Team Behind the Award. The winner of this award will be voted on by their community at the end of the football season. The winning program will then receive a $2,500 donation.
