Stephen Friar has been hired to serve as the head coach for the boys’ basketball program at Melissa High School. Student-athletes, parents, guardians, and members of the community are invited to attend a meet-and-greet event with Coach Friar from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 2 in the main gym at Melissa High School.
Friar is a three-time District Coach of the Year and for the past six years has served as the head basketball coach and taught Health Science at Liberty High School in Frisco. He holds a record of 130-47 at Liberty with four playoff appearances, three district championships, three bi-district championships, and one area championship.
Prior to becoming an educator, Friar served as a paramedic-firefighter for the City of Dallas. Friar is a graduate of the College of the Ozarks in Branson, Missouri, where he won the Division II National Championship in 2006 and was later inducted into the college’s Hall of Fame.
