Head Coach Stephen Friar
Coach Stephen Friar is excited to be in his 2nd year as the Cardinals’ Head Basketball Coach after coming off a Bi-District championship and an Area finals appearance in his 1st year at the helm. For the past 9 years prior to Melissa he taught Health Science and coached at Liberty High School in Frisco, Texas, serving as the Head Basketball Coach for 6 years. Over his tenure, he has amassed a record of 147-63 with 5 Playoff appearances, 3 district championships, 4 Bi-district Championships, 1 Area Championship, and a Regional Quarterfinal Appearance. He was also named the 3-time District Coach of the Year. And
Coach Friar proudly served as a Paramedic-Firefighter for the City of Dallas before committing to education full-time. Coach Friar was born and raised in Dallas, Texas, and is a proud Plano East alumni. He attended and played his college ball at College of the Ozarks in Branson, Missouri. During his time playing basketball in college, he was named Conference Freshman of the Year, two-time 1st team All-Conference, National Champion of Character Award Recipient, and helped lead his team to a 2006 NAIA Division 2 National Championship. Coach Friar is also a 2016 Hall of Fame inductee to the College of the Ozarks. Coach Friar graduated with a degree in Broadcast Journalism and a minor in Speech/Music before heading off to play professional basketball in Spain before beginning his career for Dallas.
He and his wife, Christina Friar, enjoy running around with their four children and their dog named Snoop. Coach Friar is also a diehard fan of the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers, and Dallas Mavericks.
